It was called the fiafia day. First the Maori
kapa haka group got up on the stage under the canopy. The Maori group sang 5 songs.
After the wonderful singing of the Maori kappa haka group, the Tongan group got up on stage and sung 3 lovely special songs. Lavania from Room 14, Tamyka from Room 1 and all of the other people from the Tongan group were amazing singers. People shouted and screamed. The cook Island children were just amazing as well. Miss Greig’s group who were the Cook Island group were outstanding.

Parents got up and started doing the Cook Islands dance. The parents they were funny and crazy. Eventually the Samoan’s got up and performed, everyone were cheering for the Samoans

After the singing and dancing Mrs Dunlop told us some very sad news. She said Mrs Fuli is leaving. People were sad. That day the MCs from Yendarra school were Shiroh Tata, Mele and Michael Puli.

A postcard from Rotorua

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_HCNfnOu5VSI/Sxg3vInTWCI/AAAAAAAAABM/MVIcZApX5Yg/s320/london-2005.1116367200.polynesian_spa_2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5411136235191359522" />
In Room 14, we have been going on imaginary vacations to different places all around New Zealand. Down there on the ground, unable to fly up high into the trees and sit on the branches.” A voice echoed out of the fresh green trees. Puki knew it was a little rewirewi bird. “Oh rewirewi you don’t need to feel sorry for me.” “Long, long ago I could fly up in to the fresh green trees just like you.” Wa wa wa what do you mean?” Rewirewi replied. “Yeah I could. But then ……”

Millions and millions of bugs came and took over the forest floor, making it look yellow and ugly. So then Tane asked all of the birds if they could live on the ground. But then they said “Sorry Tane but I like living in the trees where the sun is nice and hot”. Then when Tane asked Puki to live on the earth Puki said “Yes I will do it, I will live on the earth, I will give up my wings so that I can be the icon of New Zealand and help our country to survive. That is how I lost my wings!”

Yendarra School Athletics Day

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_HCNfnOu5VSI/SvnSKLqPLnI/AAAAAAAAAA8/fxrdApjMjCE/s320/Athletics+2009+013.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5402580300378091122" />

On the tenth of November 2009, all of the Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 children at Yendarra School gathered under the canopy for Athletics Day. When all of the classes were under the canopy, Miss Takatainga explained the rules. After the teachers had their meeting in Room 11, they took their groups and started the first activity. We did lots of sports like long jump, hurdles, soccer dribble, relays, shot put, 100m and 400m sprints and softball throw. It was a beautiful sunny day with lots of fresh air. We had to do lots of running and jumping. We all started to sweat a lot! Mia liked the sprinting and long jump. Temura's favourite activities were relays and softball throw. The day was really fun! At the end of the day, Ms Dunlop gave all the teachers and children an ice block. Yum! Thanks Ms Dunlop. Here is our lovely teacher Miss Venturi visiting Samoa with Miss Holt, Ms Mautairi, Mrs Fuli (Yendarra School teachers), Mrs Farmer (one of Yendarra School's Deputy Principals) and Mrs Dunlop (Yendarra School's Principal). They went to look at schools in Samoa and to learn more about the amazing Samoan people and their culture. Miss Venturi had lots of wonderful stories and photos to share when she came home! We felt very sad when we heard about the tsunami that devasted Samoa during our school holidays, we have being doing a lot of learning around what happens during and after a tsunami. Yendarra School has raised money to send to help the relief efforts in beautiful Samoa. Room 14 says a karakia each afternoon, in Samoan and in english, for the Samoan people.

Miss Venturi's Senses Poem - New Zealand Forests

I see the moss green branches reaching high into the heavens
I hear the wind whistling through the leaves and the stream babbling over the stones
I smell the damp soil under my feet
I taste the soft rain drops falling on my lips
I feel the flax leaves sliding past my legs as I walk along the forest path

Miss Venturi's Diamond Poem about the Sky Tower

Massive
